  • 13 Insanely Easy Facial Exercises To Look Younger
December 21, 2021

Ever thought of facial exercises as your best age-defying weapon?

There IS such a thing as facial exercises to look younger.

The first signs of aging on your face can appear as early as in your 20s, depending on factors like lifestyle, genetics, and sun exposure.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. I wish I knew in my 20s that, YES, it’s possible to rejuvenate your face naturally in just a few minutes a day. And the results are nothing short of impressive.

Facial exercises are a series of movements that stimulate facial muscles, making them firmer. They are a mind-body and self-care practice. People who practice facial exercises regularly achieve a more toned and defined face.

The list of benefits is long, but here’s a glimpse of the benefits of these facial exercises to look younger:

  • visibly reduce puffiness
  • firmer and glowy skin
  • less fine lines and wrinkles

As with any mind-body practice, benefits go beyond physical appearance. By practicing facial exercises regularly, you gain:

  • more control and awareness of muscles used for speech and movement
  • improved blood circulation
  • less back and neck pain

This post is all about facial exercises to look younger. Let’s dive in.

13 Insanely Easy Facial Exercises to Look Younger

Always start with clean hands and skin, and apply moisturizer or face oil. Do the exercises in front of a mirror. For better results, practice daily.

1. Forehead

  • Make a fist with both hands and place your knuckles vertically at the center of your forehead.
  • Glide your knuckles outwards and towards the temples, applying gentle pressure for 15-20 seconds.
  • Repeat 3 times.

2. Glabella (11 lines)

  • Use your thumb and index and middle fingers to pinch the inner corners of your eyebrows.
  • Gently pinch a generous chunk of skin and start pulling it outwards, stretching the muscle underneath as you do so. Then quickly remove your fingers. Stay here for 20-30 seconds.
  • Repeat 3 times.

3. Brow Lift

  • Make a hook with your index fingers.
  • Place your hooked fingers right underneath your eyebrows and above the eyelids. Apply gentle pressure.
  • Close your eyes and move your eyeballs up as if you were looking up. Hold it for 10 seconds, then release.
  • Repeat 3 times.

4. Crow’s Feet

  • Place your thumbs on the outer corner of your eyes, with palms facing upwards.
  • Rest your fingers on top of your head.
  • Close your eyes, squeezing them tightly while pulling your skin back towards your ears. Hold for 5 seconds, then release.
  • Repeat 10 times.

5. Under Eyes (Bags And Dark Circles)

  • Place index and middle fingers on the outer corner of your eyes and press it gently.
  • Look up and slowly squint your eyes.
  • Your fingers should prevent wrinkles from forming while you squint. Hold the squint for 3 seconds, then release.
  • Repeat 10-15 times.

6. Cheeks

  • Slightly open your mouth, then cover your front teeth with your lips.
  • Smile, but keep your eyes and forehead relaxed.
  • Hold your smile for 1 minute. You’ll feel your cheeks on fire. Release your lips.
  • Repeat 3 times.

7. Nose

  • Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the sides of your nose.
  • Start from the edge of your nostrils, then work your way up the inner corner of your eyes.
  • Once you’ve reached your eye area, slide your index fingers down to the nostrils, then start pinching up again.
  • Repeat for 20-30 seconds.

8. Nasolabial Folds

  • Place your left index and middle fingers on the upper right corner of your lips. They’ll gently hold your skin in place.
  • Now place your right index and middle fingers along the right nasolabial fold line.
  • Start to sweep from the nasolabial fold towards the cheek, speeding up as you get comfortable with the movement. Sweep for 20-30 seconds.
  • Repeat on the left side.

9. Lips

  • Use your thumbs and index fingers to pinch and “knead” your lips as if you were gluing them together.
  • Start from the right corner, work your way to the left, and then move back to the right.
  • Repeat for 20-30 seconds.

10. Jawline

  • Start on your right side.
  • Slide your thumbs and index fingers along the jawline, from the center of the chin to your ear. Do this 8-10 times.
  • Repeat on the left side.

11. Double Chin

  • Using your thumbs and index fingers, pinch your chin for 20-30 sec, then release.
  • Reach for the muscle here; you want to give yourself a deep tissue massage.
  • Repeat 3 times.

12. Neck

  • Open a fake smile, keeping your eyes and forehead relaxed.
  • As you widen your mouth to smile, pull up the neck muscle, but don’t bring your lower lip down, you should only see your upper teeth.
  • Hold your neck muscle up for 10-15 seconds, then release and take a deep breath.
  • Repeat 3 times.

13. Scalp

  • Place your fingers wide open on your forehead, right above the brows.
  • Start to slide your fingers towards the scalp and to the back of the neck.
  • Apply enough pressure so that the move feels invigorating but painless.
  • Repeat 15-20 times.

Let’s Face Some Facts

Face exercises, or face yoga, are a mind-body practice focusing on developing a sense of well-being. It’s self-care inside and out. The goal is for you to discover your best self naturally and to open a path to a different form of skincare you haven’t experienced before.

Exercising your face may help reduce wrinkles and improve facial contours. Skin texture and firmness are also enhanced. As a result, some people are so happy that they forgo cosmetic treatments altogether.

Like with any activity, the more you practice face exercises, the better your results.

But before you start, it’s essential to set realistic expectations for what you can achieve with face exercises.

Yes, you’ll see results, however:

  • They will be subtle
  • They depend on continuous practice
  • They vary from person to person

Things that face yoga cannot do for you:

  • Change bone structures (cheeks, nose)
  • Eliminate all wrinkles
  • Reverse skin laxity
  • Eliminate under-eye bags + dark circles

Takeaways

Depending on where you are in your skincare journey and natural aging process, face yoga alone might not be enough to produce your desired outcomes. In that case, you might want to resort to cosmetic treatments and then maintain those treatments through facial massage and face yoga.

And you probably already know, but cosmetic treatments are not cheap. So if you want to rejuvenate your face but can’t afford a procedure just yet, or prefer a less invasive route, then face yoga coupled with a solid skincare routine is an excellent start. Like I said before, you might find your results so good you’ll choose to delay or skip the expensive treatments altogether.

No, there are no scientific studies that prove the effectiveness of face exercises. There are also no studies proving otherwise. Large, randomized controlled studies haven’t been performed yet, so nothing is set in stone.

But if, on the one hand, there’s a lack of scientific evidence, on the other hand, there’s no shortage of people swearing by it, happy with their results. So why not give it a try?
